Shipping and fulfilment operations can often feel like a black hole of complexity. Between managing carriers, staff, shipping costs, and countless manual decisions throughout the day, it’s easy to feel like the chaos is almost unmanageable.
That’s why with every update to Starshipit, we aim to make these everyday tasks just a little bit easier, whether that’s through more intuitive tools in the warehouse, a smoother checkout experience for your customers, or simply helping you manage your bottom line more effectively.
This month’s updates are all about streamlining the details that matter most:
Each of these updates is designed to reduce friction, eliminate guesswork, and help your team move faster with confidence. Let’s take a closer look.
At its core, the rules engine helps you automate repetitive shipping tasks, like assigning carriers, packaging, or applying specific delivery instructions, based on logic that you define. For retailers juggling growing order volumes and customer expectations, it’s an essential part of scaling operations without scaling effort.
This month, we’ve made a series of updates to make the rules engine easier to understand and faster to use, especially if you’re new to it.
The first thing you’ll notice is a refreshed rules settings page that’s been redesigned for clarity and speed. Dropdown menus for Conditions and Actions are now grouped into common-sense categories, with the most popular options listed right at the top. You can also use the type-ahead search function, which will automatically suggest what you're looking for when you start typing.
We’ve added a search bar above the rule table so you can quickly locate individual rules – super helpful for teams managing long lists of automations. And if you're just getting started, you’ll now see four new quick-start templates front and centre, covering some of the most commonly used rules.
“We wanted to make it easier for every retailer (not just the technically inclined) to build smart automations. These updates are all about clarity, discoverability, and confidence. It should now feel a lot more intuitive to get started and scale up.”
– Shauni, Lead UX Designer, Starshipit
When we created our mobile pick and pack app, we wanted to give warehouse teams a way to simplify their pick and pack processes, without needing to buy expensive dedicated scanners and picking systems.
From scanning orders and printing labels to managing fulfilment on the go, it’s all about speed, accuracy, and simplicity. Now, we’re adding tote picking to that list.
With tote picking, you can streamline the picking process by scanning a tote at the start of a pick run. Every item scanned from that point on is automatically assigned to that tote, keeping things organised from shelf to ship.
Here’s why it makes a difference:
To get started, open the Starshipit mobile app and head to Settings → Tote Settings. You can also check out our support guide for a walkthrough.
“This is all about reducing friction on the warehouse floor. It’s a small feature with a big impact on clarity, accountability, and speed.”
– Jordan, Product Owner – Mobile, Starshipit
Keeping track of shipping costs shouldn’t be a guessing game. That’s why we’ve enhanced our invoice reconciliation feature to support all carriers.
Now, you can upload freight invoices from any carrier using a CSV file. Simply enter the column name for tracking numbers, and Starshipit will do the rest, matching the charges back to your orders and surfacing key insights.
If there’s an issue with the file format (like a missing tracking column), we’ll show a clear error message so you can fix it fast. No digging through mismatched line items or trying to decode generic import errors.
Here’s what invoice reconciliation can do for you:
“Our goal was to remove the barriers to cost clarity. Whether you're using mainstream or niche carriers, reconciliation should be simple, fast, and accurate.”
– Alex, Lead Product Manager, Starshipit
Shipping costs can make or break the customer experience at checkout, especially when they’re unexpectedly high, or worse, undercharged (and eating into your margins). That’s why we’ve extended Starshipit’s Recommended Packaging feature to work before the order is even placed.
Previously, packaging recommendations only kicked in once an order hit your dashboard. Now, they can be applied in real time during checkout, giving your customers more accurate shipping rates – and giving you better control over fulfilment costs.
Here’s what’s new:
Right now, this feature is available for Shopify users, with more platforms coming soon. If you’re using Shopify and have a populated Product Catalogue in Starshipit, you’re good to go.
“This update makes our rate calculations more intelligent and more connected to the real world. It's great for retailers who want to save money and avoid surprises at dispatch.”
– Alex, Lead Product Manager, Starshipit
