When it comes to order fulfilment, efficiency is the name of the game. Every second counts. That’s why we’ve included multiple ways to print orders in Starshipit, including scan to print, auto print and even print from API.

In this guide, we’ll explore these methods in detail, including why you’d want to use them and how to get started. Whether you’re a seasoned Starshipit user or new to our platform, optimising your label printing strategy can elevate your shipping process to new heights of speed and accuracy.

Let’s get started!

#2: Open and print orders individually (Print and next)

Click into each order you’d like to print individually, and then use the ‘Print and next’ button to move to the next order.

When to use this method

Opening orders before printing is an ideal method when you’d like to see more details when packing your orders. You can use the order details screen as a ‘digital packing slip’ to view carrier details, package information and more.

This is also a great way to make order modifications. For example, if you need to make changes to the packaging or switch carriers, then doing so from the order details page is certainly the quickest method.

Once you’ve made your changes and are ready to print, simply click “Print and next” to print the current order and move to the next order for processing (saving you clicks).

How it works

  • From the Orders grid, click an order to open the order details screen.
  • Click the Print and next the button to print the shipping label and automatically move to the next order.

#3: Scan to print

Scan the barcode on a packing slip to automatically generate the associated shipping label for the order.

When to use this method

Scan to print is a useful workflow to help you save time, as you won’t need to manually find or enter order numbers. It’s as simple as printing your packing slip, packing the order, then scanning the packing slip to generate the matching label.

This is also a great method to use for batch processing high volumes of orders, as you can scan multiple packing slips in quick succession.

With this method, you can also use packing validation to scan product barcodes to check whether a product belongs in the order.

How it works

  1. Get a barcode containing the order number. You can get this from a Starshipit packing slip, an external packing slip with the order number as a barcode or a digital barcode (depending on whether you have a compatible scanner for screen reading).
  2. Navigate to the Workflows page in Starshipit.
  3. Select Scan and Print.
  4. Pack your order.
  5. If you’re using packing validation, this is where you’d scan the product barcode to check the product belongs in the order.
  6. Once you've finished packing your order, scan the order number barcode using your scanner.
  7. The corresponding shipping label will be printed automatically.

#4: Auto print

Set up the print app to print orders automatically as soon as they come into Starshipit.

When to use this method

By configuring the print app to automatically print labels upon order arrival, you eliminate the need for manual printing, saving you time. This also ensures labels are always printed and ready for processing, avoiding bottlenecks.

How it works

  1. Download and install the Print App.
  2. From the toolbar in the Print App, select Tools > Auto Print.
  3. Tick Enable auto print of any unshipped orders.
  4. Configure how often you'd like Starshipit to scan and print new orders.
  5. Choose whether you'd like to save the label PDF to your computer (and the location) or have the label print automatically to your label printer.
