We’ve just launched a brand-new pick and pack mobile app specifically designed for businesses like yours. Read on to learn why we created it, how it works and the best way to get started.
From day dot, we’ve been committed to continually enhancing our shipping automation technology to meet the evolving needs of retailers. In just the past year, we’ve introduced features like recommended packaging (which can automatically identify the right box for each order and help you reduce packaging waste) and machine-learning transit times (which shows you accurate estimates for delivery times from your different carriers).
With our new mobile app, we wanted to give businesses a way to simplify their pick and pack processes, without needing to buy expensive dedicated scanners and picking systems. Instead, we created an app which works with any iOS (iPhone) or Android (Samsung/Google etc.) device.
The app was designed from the ground up for warehouse operators, businesses, and fulfilment teams who want greater mobility, accuracy, and productivity in their workflows.
Every warehouse is different, and so is every pick and pack process. That’s why we’ve designed this app to be flexible to your specific workflow. You can set up the app in picking mode, packing mode – or both. Note: You can change these modes at any time.
And how does the app work with your main Starshipit dashboard? Well, whenever you mark an order as picked or packed in the mobile app, you’ll see a tag next to that order in your Starshipit dashboard. Simple.
Below is an overview of the different modes in the app and how they work:
In Picking mode, you can easily identify orders that are yet to be picked. You'll only see orders that do not have the "picked" tag, making it simple to focus on what's left to pick. When you pick an order, it gets tagged as "picked" and disappears from your list.
This mode is all about scanning items to mark them as picked, providing a clear process to streamline order preparation.
Packing mode is designed for managing orders that are ready to be packed. You'll see orders that either don't have any tags or already have the "picked" tag. This mode allows you to pack items by scanning them, update packaging details, and print shipping labels.
Packing an order will add a "packed" tag and remove it from your list, ensuring you stay organised and only focus on what still needs attention.
This combined mode allows you to switch between Picking and Packing tabs within the app, giving you the flexibility to handle different stages of the fulfilment process.
The Picking tab will show you orders waiting to be picked, while the Packing tab will only display orders that are already picked and ready to be packed. It's a versatile option for managing both tasks efficiently, especially when workflows overlap.
Discover how the Starshipit mobile app simplifies pick and pack processes with real-world examples, boosting efficiency and reducing costs for your business.
The app enables you to pick and pack orders efficiently from anywhere in your warehouse using a simple, off the shelf Android or iOS mobile device. The best part? How you pick and pack using our mobile app is totally up to you. You might want to some of your warehouse staff using the app to go and pick items, with separate staff focused on packing orders using the app.
Example: At Deluxe T-Shirts, James uses the Starshipit mobile app to pick shirts from various locations in the warehouse, marking each item as picked on his mobile device.
Meanwhile, Sarah in the packing area uses the app to verify the items and pack them for shipping, ensuring a smooth, efficient workflow without needing paper slips or manual tracking.
The barcode scanning feature ensures that the right items are picked and packed, reducing costly shipping errors. With this tool, you can easily verify each item before it leaves the warehouse, giving you confidence that every order is accurate.
Example: At Deluxe T-Shirts, James scans each product’s barcode as he picks items from the shelves, using the Starshipit mobile app. Once Sarah starts packing, she scans the barcodes again to double-check the items before completing the order, ensuring nothing is mismatched or left out.
This process helps prevent costly shipping mistakes (such as including the wrong item in an order) and keeps operations running smoothly.
This app makes it easy to start bulk picking and packing in your warehouse, as you can simply tap to select multiple orders and mark them as either “picked” or “packed”, instead of managing cumbersome paper slips. Another great feature: If you’re using Starshipit’s print client, you can trigger shipping labels to print from the app, automatically.
Oh, and you can also easily switch between your child accounts to manage orders from different accounts without hassle.
Example: At Deluxe T-Shirts, James uses the Starshipit mobile app to bulk select a batch of 20 orders for picking, quickly scanning and marking each item as "picked" on his device. Once the items are packed, Sarah taps to mark the orders as "packed" and triggers the shipping labels to print automatically using Starshipit's print client, streamlining the entire process without the need for paper slips.
The Starshipit mobile app enables you to switch to digital picking and packing slips, reducing paper usage and minimising warehouse clutter. By going paperless, your business can save on paper costs while supporting eco-friendly practices and improving overall organisation.
